New law for private medical College : a teacher for ten students in Bangladesh | Doctors Gang

The government is going to make a new act to run these educational institutions by keeping the obligation of having one teacher for 10 students in private medical and dental colleges in Bangladesh.


A virtual cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday gave final approval to the draft of the Private Medical Colleges and Dental Colleges Act, 2021.

Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam told a briefing at the secretariat after the meeting that the draft act was approved in principle on September 29, 2020.

The final approved draft on Monday said every medical or dental college should have at least 50 students.

In the metropolitan area there should be two acres in the name of medical college, one acre in the name of dental college and in other areas four acres for medical college and two acres for dental college.

Three crore taka should be deposited in Scheduled Bank in the name of Medical College and two crore taka in the name of Dental College.

The student to teacher ratio should be 1:10. Student fees will be determined by the government. Medical waste must be processed scientifically.

The cabinet secretary said the medical college should have at least one lakh square feet for academic activities and another one lakh square feet for construction of hospitals. And for a dental hospital there must be 50 thousand square feet.

“There will be arrangements for inspection. Every privately recognized medical and dental college must be part of a public university. ”

The cabinet secretary said the proposed law would provide for two years imprisonment, a fine of Rs 10 lakh or both for violating the law.
