The data from a joint study by the IEDCR and the private International Center for Diarrhea Research, Bangladesh (ICDDRB) on corona infections and gene mutations in the country was released at a hotel in the capital's Gulshan on Monday (October 12th).

The study, funded by USAID and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, found that coronavirus antibody tests showed that 45 percent of people in the capital were infected with coronavirus and had antibodies in their bodies. However, none of them had corona symptoms on their body. 24% of them are over 60 years of age. The study also claimed that about three-quarters of the people in Dhaka's slums have already been infected.

According to the details of the study, out of one hundred twenty nine   wards of Dhaka South and Dhak North City Corporation, 25 wards were selected for this study on random basis. A mahalla is selected from each ward. 120 houses from each mahalla were included in the survey. In addition, 6 slums were included in the survey. Samples of common food in Dhaka city are collected from mid-April to mid-July. Samples of slum dwellers are collected from mid-July to the end of August.

Presenting the research results at the event, the researchers and scientists of IEDDR and ICDDRB said that this information would be important for the control, treatment and vaccination of taxpayers in the country. Especially to prevent the second wave of epidemics.

Additional Director General of the Department of Health (Planning and Development) Professor. Mirzadi Sebrina Flora presided over the function, which was attended by officials and researchers from IEDCR and ICDDRB. Health Minister Zahid Malek participated in the event through video conference.
