Baby food: What you need to know

There is no end to the thoughts of the parents about the food of little Sonamani. What do they eat at what age, how much to feed, let's find out the answers to these questions.

Food habits of baby/child and pediatrics diet

Sayeda Anwar, a professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said:

Born to six months baby food

the baby should be exclusively breastfed for the first six months after birth, during which time the baby should not be allowed to drink water separately.

After six month baby food

After the age of six months, the baby should be given extra food. After the age of six months, the baby should be given extra food. Six month to one year need to be given three meals a day in addition to breast milk.

However, even at this age, the main food of the baby is mother's milk. That is, the amount of extra food will be less.

A little heavier food like double khichuri or soft rice can be given between three meals. The rest of the day you can give a light meal (fruit juice or soft fruit, for example, banana).

Half-boiled eggs, vegetable soup or small chicken soup are also good for the baby.

One year two years baby food

In the case of children older than one year, the amount of breast milk should be gradually reduced. At this age you need extra food five times a day.

Under no circumstances should it be wrong to force feed a baby too much. If the growing child does not like to eat one food, another food of the same nutritional value can be given instead.

Under no circumstances should it be wrong to force feed a baby too much. If the growing child does not like to eat one food, another food of the same nutritional value can be given instead. For children who do not want to eat khichuri, you can mix soft rice with pulses, vegetables, fish or meat.

The baby should be breastfed till the age of two years. The baby should not be fed cow's milk or canned milk until he is two years old.

Shamsunnahar Nahid, senior nutrition officer at Bardem General Hospital, gave some more advice. "At the time when the baby/infant is fed  other foods besides  breast milk, the conc. level of other foods in the baby needs to be the equal as breast milk," she said.

It is not okay to give the child solid foods, such as biscuits or hard rice. Eating solid foods can get stuck in the baby's throat.

The amount of baby food should be increased little by little. At first, one-third of the bowl of soup may be fed at a time. Gradually the amount of food can be brought to half a bowl, a quarter of a bowl and thus up to one bowl.

Vegetable meat is more suitable for baby. So add pulses to baby food before starting fish or meat.

The same amount of rice and pulses should be taken to make khichuri.

Babies as young as six months old can be given a little egg yolk, after which the yolk quantity should be gradually increased. Boiled or poached egg yolks, both suitable for children.

After a while you can start feeding the white part of the egg. The baby should be given water from the age of six months.

You can also give noodles soup or porridge to the baby.

This food should be given continuously for three to five days after starting any one food, whether the child has allergies to that food or if the child has any other problem after eating it, it will be caught during this time.

It is not right to give pickled fruits to children. Children should not be given tofu before the age of about nine months. Sweet fruits are more suitable for children.

It is not right to give too much salt in children's food. It is not right to give too much salt in children's food.

It is not right to give too much salt in children's food. And it is better to use honey or molasses instead of sugar. On average, babies can eat food like the rest of the family by the age of one, but it depends on when the baby's teeth grow. The baby that erupts will be able to get used to normal food a little earlier. And for children who are a little late in getting their teeth up, it takes a while for them to get used to a completely normal diet, but there is nothing to fear.
