Diabetic retinopathy

When the level of diabetes is higher than normal, many organs and systems of the body are damaged. Visual information travels through the retina of the eye to the optic nerve. When blood sugar rises, the narrow blood vessels in the retina are damaged, and the narrow blood vessels rupture. Blood and other fluids leak from there. As a result, the retinal tissue becomes swollen. The vision becomes blurred. One of the most harmful aspects of diabetes is retinopathy, which can lead to blindness. This damage starts in a very subtle way, but gradually increases over time. Suffering from diabetes for a long time increases the risk of this disease. The sooner the damage is detected, the sooner treatment will begin, the lower the risk of losing sight.

The study found that the boy had not eaten anything other than potato chips, french fries and processed pork products for several years. Such cases are a definite example of optic neuropathy. Healthy eating habits are also essential for eye health.

In the treatment of this disease, the damage to the blood vessels can be prevented by direct injection in the eye and inflammation can also be stopped. If any part of the blood vessel is torn, it can be repaired with laser therapy. Surgery may be required at a very advanced stage of diabetic retinopathy. Surgery replaces the vitreous humor from behind the eye and restores the detached retina.
